Shot peening is a cold working process used to produce a compressive residual stress layer and modify mechanical properties of metals and composites. It entails impacting a surface with shot (round metallic, glass, or ceramic particles) with force sufficient to create plastic deformation. It tends to expand the surface of the cold metal, thereby inducing compressive stresses or relieving tensile stresses already present. Peening can also encourage strain hardening of the surface metal.

Utilizing our expansive finishing department, P&G Metal Components has decades of experience in surface finishing for a variety of parts and types of materials. We are a niche supplier to the compressor and automotive industries worldwide for our ability to stress relieve parts and to ensure close tolerance edge conditions. Our quality controlled process can remove burrs, sharp edges, tool marks, flash and scale to conform to your finish requirements. We have multiple sizes of vibratory bowls, centrifugal equipment and rotary barrel tumbling cells; and we incorporate automated feeders and conveyors where possible to ensure efficiency. Our equipment, plus our decades of experience with a variety of media and materials ensures bulk finishing is predicable and consistent as well as cost-effective with each batch cycle.

Metal stamping with press sizes to 175 tons is a core specialty at P&G Metal Components. We run single-hit compound and progressive dies that maximize efficiency, repeatability and quality assurance. Our highly engineered components maximize a cost effective design from the start. P&G engineers work with our customer to build new dies per their requirements, or to modify existing dies transferred in from our competition. We train to disciplined processes throughout our manufacturing footprint, and incorporate lean manufacturing principals evident in our well-known global OE customers plus satisfaction and quality certifications including TS 16949 and ISO 14001.
As a United States based manufacturer of Almen Strips, P&G Metal Components’ in-house manufacturing, testing and certification of Almen Strips adhere to stringent quality. P&G’s Almen Strips are the best in industry for shot peen service providers worldwide. Certificates of conformance are supplied with each shipment. Our strips are produced and sold in three standard grades identified as “A”, “N” and “C”. Our test strips equal or exceed all requirements of SAE Standard J442, and AMS specification 2432.
